Our pilot operation in Turku has the capability and know-how to extract high-value bioactive compounds from sawdust. We are preparing to build an industrial-scale process in 2025–2026 that will produce sustainable and ethical wood sugar extracts from Spruce sawdust.
Earning instead of burning
Sawmills produce millions of tons of sawdust and bark globally. The current commercial value of these side streams is low. Montinutra can add significant value by extracting high-value bioactive compounds from those low-value side streams.
Sawdust and bark are usually incinerated in bio-power plants, and the economic value added remains low. In addition, the burning process causes greenhouse gas emissions.
